Hand-thrown on the wheel in downtown Los Angeles, this pink terracotta vase is made from iron-rich terracotta clay, brushed with a custom porcelain slip. The layered surface is smooth to the touch, with a dry, matte finish and a milky, antiqued quality that makes each piece unique.

How the Color Develops

The warm orange and pink tone comes entirely from the clay itself, the iron content reacting to heat in the kiln to develop its natural hue. Porcelain slip is brushed on before firing, softening the surface into a muted finish that absorbs light. Every piece comes out of the kiln slightly different, with its own tonal shifts and surface character.
